Welcome back to my blog!

This has been a hectic week in getting my sketches ready to be transferred to canvas.

In my first year I was quite frantic in the way I was painting, I would rush from sketchbook to painting and making like I had to in some strange way. I felt pressurised to create a body of work to be shown each week, which can be dangerous. If I was to create one canvas of a road scene, the colour of the road being wrong, all the paintings from that week would result in having this problem; therefore, I have pulled the reins on myself, and I will take my time thinking of compositions and colour palettes. Just like the image below, that I created this week. This week was collecting information to transfer onto canvas; however, the info collecting will continue. It is lovely to have a backbone, something to always refer back to when need be.

Artist I have researched this include:

Karen pierce

I am fond of the way she creates so much movement in her paintings, they mostly consist of waterfalls or lakes mostly water based. she uses these simple marks, that make the paintings just come to life, makes me feel like I'm there feeling the elements she has painted.

Lawrence Gowing

He uses such simple shapes to depict a scene, and I love how much light he brings into this paintings and sometimes his darks aswell to contrast with the Bright's, especially in the painting Briar and Hawthorn at Savernake (which is shown below) what really intrigued me to this particular painting of his was the composition, he simply had this big mast of land which was painted so lively and brightly, to break this up he adds this try that sits on the left hand side of the composition and nearly covers the whole length of the canvas, so beautifully created. This painting really excites me and I'm definitely going to take inspiration from Lawrence Gowing.
