Studio diary- Changing size

Welcome back to my blog!

With weeks to go until the exhibition goes up the nerves are now hitting home! obviously also excitement however because I am now contemplating where the project is going the excitement is being masked as nerves. The paintings are not coming out as I envisioned, the landscape format now not working as well, therefore experimentation into scale and format was needed.

I decided to create pieces in the normal 21x29.7cm dimensions but turned to be portrait, while also experimenting with scale by painting on 61.5x42.9cm sized boards. The paintings in portrait format

By changing size it allowed the paintings to become more fluid and experimental. The decision was made to paint over the existing image. The finished paintings Gwanwyn 1 and Gwanwyn 2 now using more complicated compositions bringing the surrounding landscape into the paintings. I especially enjoying bringing mountain into the paintings because i believe they bring a lovely sense of light into the piece.

Therefore changing size is a risk worth taking! Until next time, Happy painting-Cerys
